Deadline has revealed an exclusive report that Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman and People We Meet on Vacation’s Emily Bader have been cast in the upcoming remake of the original 2004 romantic-fantasy-comedy 13 Going on 30, by director Gary Winick, of the same name. The reboot is scheduled for a Netflix release and is directed by People We Meet on Vacation’s director Brett Haley, with original star Jennifer Garner serving as executive producer.
“13 Going on 30 is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer,” the director reportedly shared with Deadline. “I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility.”
It’s been reported that the success of People We Meet on Vacation (staying on the Global Top 10 Movies in English for four weeks) is the reason behind Haley being hired as director and Bader’s casting. Screenwriter Hannah Marks and Flora Geeson have teamed up to work on the reboot’s script, with Marks’ credits including 2018’s After Everything and 2021’s Mark, Mary, & Some Other People, and Geeson’s pen being behind the sequel Princess Diaries 3.
The original film sees Jenna Rink (Christa B. Allen and Garner older) struggling under the newfound pressure of turning 13-years-old in 1987, just on the very first day, and so wishes on some magic dust and a homemade dreamhouse to become 30, flirty and thriving. She awakens the next day to discover she is now in the body of a 30-year-old Garner, who lives in a lavish New York apartment and works for a stylish yet struggling fashion magazine. Jenna’s childhood best friend Matt (young version: Sean Marquette and old Mark Ruffalo) and new best friend and co-worker Lucy (young version: Alexandra Kyle and old Judy Greer) stand at opposite ends of the two paths Jenna can now take.
13 Going on 30 is beloved as a cultural time capsule of the 2000s and grossed $98 million against a $37 million budget. And don’t forget the Thriller dance party.
