A 69-year-old man recently lost his life at a McDonald’s drive-thru. Reportedly, an employee from the restaurant was also injured as they attempted to help the man. Since then, local authorities have described what happened during the incident.
The Tragic Incident Took Place At A Nebraska McDonald’s Early On Tuesday Morning
Green Island police and firefighters were called in just before 10:30 AM to a local McDonald’s early Tuesday morning, December 23, 2025. A man was found trapped at the scene.
The man was reportedly seen trapped between his vehicle and the fast food establishment’s payment window. He was later taken to the CHI St. Francis emergency room.
The man was later pronounced dead. According to KSNB, Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott described what happened as “100% a freak accident.”
Elliott continued to paint a picture of what happened, saying, “It appears the deceased opened the door to further reach out the window for payment purposes. We’re not sure if the vehicle lurched forward or what happened, but he got pinched between the door frame and the drive-thru window counter.”
An Employee Was Reportedly Injured While Trying To Help & Had To Be Taken To The Hospital
The man was later identified by authorities as Michael Dickinson of Grand Island, Nebraska. Police say he was the only one inside the vehicle at the time.
However, Elliot also noted that a McDonald’s employee also went outside to try to help. They reportedly went through the passenger side of the vehicle and was injured in the process. They were also taken to the hospital in an ambulance. According to the outlet, they are expected to be okay.
The Grand Island Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is currently working on the investigation. The scene was later cleared at around 12:35 PM local time. The McDonald’s reportedly remained open following what happened.
According to a press release, Dickinson’s next of kin were notified of the fatal incident. Dickinson’s family also shared a dedication to him on GoFundMe.
It read, “A skilled and hardworking mechanic, Michael took pride in his work and had a gift for fixing what was broken. It reflected who he was – reliable, practical, and dedicated. Though his life was cut short, Michael’s love, loyalty, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be dearly missed and always remembered.”
Ultimately, it was shared, “His loss is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.” It was also shared that the campaign will help with funeral services.
