Being a conjoined twin is a complicated situation, as every case is different. Every set shares different parts of the body, and some are fortunate enough to be able to be separated. However, separations come with risks, and those can be fatal. One duo is Carmen and Lupita Andrade, who were born in Mexico. They are conjoined at the torso but do have their own heart, lungs, and stomachs. Yet, from the waist down, it is all one, which makes intimacy questionable.
In 2020, Carmen found love with Daniel McCormack, whom she met on the dating app Hinge. They then decided to get married in Connecticut in 2024 on Lover’s Leap Bridge, which is a beautiful idea. However, there was still Lupita, who considers herself asexual, to consider. She clarified that she has ways of occupying herself:
“I have headphones and a phone.”
Moreover, she shared that she looks at Daniel as a brother, and nothing more. Fortunately for Lupita, Carmen and Daniel are not very much into physical intimacy, but this is their preference and not because she is conjoined:
“I’m not a very overly affectionate person that way. There’s this societal expectation that there needs to be affection all the time in a relationship.”
Furthermore, Carmen made it clear that the couple does try to respect Lupita’s feelings. They know that she is always there and will always be around. Therefore, being cognizant of that is key.
Separating them had been discussed, but it was deemed too dangerous, so they talk about everything. That is the sign of a healthy sisterhood.
Kids On The Horizon?
Since Carmen Andrade is married, another question aside from intimacy is whether or not she wants kids. She firmly stated that she does not want them and never saw herself as a mother.
