Despite launching a ton of new products already this month, Apple isn’t done yet. The iPhone maker just unveiled the AirPods Max 2, an upgrade to its over-ear headphones coming later this month.
The AirPods Max 2 sport improved active noise cancellation (ANC), better sound quality, a new H2 chip, and more.
With Apple moving the AirPods Max 2 to the H2 chip (up from the H1 in the original Max), the headphones will offer smart features like Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, and Live Translation.
When it comes to noise cancellation, Apple says the AirPods Max 2 are 1.5 times more effective than the AirPods Max. Transparency mode is improved as well, thanks to a new digital signal processing algorithm and microphone array on the headphones.
Apple equipped the AirPods Max 2 with a new high-dynamic range amplifier for cleaner audio. Plus, the headphones support 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio when connected with the included USB-C cable.
Other new features include camera remote, which lets you control a camera using the headphones’ Digital Crown, improved recording features, loud sound reduction and personalized volume, which automatically tunes the listening experience over time based on your preferences.
Beyond all that, the AirPods Max 2 are about the same as the original Max. Both headphones support Bluetooth 5.0 and have up to 20 hours of battery life with ANC. Moreover, the headphones come in the same colours: midnight, starlight, blue, purple, and orange.
The AirPods Max 2 are also a little more expensive now, starting at $799 in Canada instead of $779 like before. The headphones will be up for order on Apple’s website starting March 25 and will be available “early next month.”
