Wolves extended their unbeaten Premier League run to three games after coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Brentford.

Brentford’s lead through Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago’s well-worked goals was reduced when Adam Armstrong struck for the visitors just before half-time, with Tolu Arokodare finding an equaliser in the 77th minute to earn a deserved draw for the Premier League’s bottom side.

Rob Edwards’ continued their late season resurgence by backing up wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool with a handy draw in West London. In fact, Wolves have picked up more points (nine) in their last six league games than they had in their first 25 of the season (eight) – though they remain 12 points from safety.

Brentford, meanwhile, missed the chance to close the gap between them and the Premier League’s top six in the race for European football as they ended the evening three points off Chelsea.

Kayode and Thiago on target in first half

Mikkel Damsgaard was the first to go close, picking out Dango Ouattara on the right before getting the ball back inside the box, with the Danish playmaker firing just over the bar.

Brentford remained on the front foot and went in front in the 22nd minute through an outstanding cross by Keane Lewis-Potter and an even better header by Kayode, who used the pace of the delivery to glance a header past a rooted Jose Sa.

Ouattara then stood up another cross in the air for Igor Thiago but the Brazilian, fresh off his maiden call-up to the national team prior to kick-off, couldn’t direct his header on target.

A spell of Wolves pressure followed but they found themselves 2-0 down out of nowhere when an excellent long pass by goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was brought down exquisitely by Ouattara, who calmly nudged the ball into the path of Thiago to tap into an empty net.

The Brazilian was inches away from making it three when he struck the woodwork with a header after Sepp van den Berg won the first header from one of Kayode’s trademark long throws.

Wolves roared back into action when Armstrong brought the ball inside his man with a nice touch before a lovely side-footed finish which put the game right back in the balance before the half-time whistle blew.

Wolves roar back in second half

Armstrong nearly brought the visitors level after the break, with the striker latching onto Jackson Tchatchoua’s reverse pass before striking the post with a close-range shot which probably should have been on target.

The Bees failed to wake up in the second half in truth with Wolves enjoying the lion’s share of the ball and the equaliser finally came with less than 15 minutes left when substitute Arokodare headed home at the back post.

Rob Edwards’ men did not rest there and Arokodare’s impact continued as he struck the crossbar with a header from Hugo Bueno’s cross, with the game completely turning on its head.

For all of Wolves’ dominance in the second half, it was Brentford who probably should have found the winner as Reiss Nelson failed to get his header on target after a cross by Jordan Henderson as the clock ticked over into added time.
