The Devil Wears Prada 2 is hitting cinemas this year, with anticipation to see our favourite runway divas on screen once again, but one character from the original movie won’t be returning for the sequel.
According to Deadline and Page Six, Adrian Grenier, who played Andy Sachs’ (Anne Hathaway) boyfriend, Nate, has recently discussed not being asked to return for the second movie.
“We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we are in it,” Grenier explained. “Obviously, I was disappointed that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand that there’s some backlash with Nate, so that might have something to do with it. But I think that just leaves room for a spinoff.”
Over the years, fans across social media have been quick to call out the selfish behaviour of Nate in his relationship with Andy, seemingly becoming upset with her for pursuing a career within fashion, even after he seemed accepting to begin with. The couple goes through some upset in the film, and by the end of the movie, their relationship status is up in the air by the time the credits roll.
Although Grenier isn’t returning, Tracie Thoms will be back on screen as their friend, Lily.
The sequel sees the return of Andy, Meryl Streep as the iconic Miranda Priestley, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling. This movie will see Andy return to Runway Magazine, 20 years after telling Miranda that she was leaving. As the publication is now struggling to keep up with the ever-evolving media landscape, Andy and Miranda have to now convince Emily, who is now heading up a luxury brand, to invest in advertising that says Runway.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits cinemas on May 1st, 2026.
