    16/03/2026 – Marta Matute’s debut film has taken the top prize, along with two awards for its cast, while the Mexican film The Garden We Dreamed has secured three major awards

    The jury of the Official Competition Feature Film Section at the 29th Málaga Film Festival (held from 6 to 15 March), made up of Jaione Camborda (chair), Belén Funes, Loreto Mauleón, Daniela Michel, Rosa Montero, Gastón Pauls and Santiago Roncagliolo, announced last Saturday that the Golden Biznaga, worth €8,000, for Best Spanish Film was awarded to I Won’t Die For Love, the debut feature film directed by Marta Matute. The film also picked up the awards for Best Actress (newcomer Júlia Mascort) and Best Supporting Actor (Tomás del Estal).

    The Golden Biznaga for Best Ibero-American Film in the Official Selection went to The Garden We Dreamed by Joaquín del Paso, which premiered in the Berlinale Panorama section and also won the awards for Best Director and Best Cinematography (Gökhan Tiryaki).

    Next on the list of the most awarded films is the European co-production Iván & Hadoum [+see also:

    , directed by Ian de la Rosa. It also premiered in the Panorama section at the recent Berlinale, where it won the Teddy Award. In Málaga, it received the awards for Best Screenplay and the Special Jury Award, along with a special mention for the performance of its lead actor, Silver Chicón.

    , directed by Juan Pablo Sallato. The film arrived from the Perspectives section at Berlin and was recognised in Málaga with the awards for Best Actor (Nicolás Zárate) and Best Editing (Valeria Hernández and Sebastián Brahm).

    The list of winners in the Official Competition section is completed by the Silver Biznaga for Best Supporting Actress, awarded to María Magdalena Sanizo for her performance in La hija cóndor (Bolivia/Peru/Uruguay). The film also received an award for its soundtrack, composed by Cergio Prudencio and Marcelo Guerrero.

    Meanwhile, the Critics’ Jury, made up of Norberto Chab, José Antonio Díaz and Marcelo Stiletano, awarded its Silver Biznaga to The Red Hangar. The Málaga Film Festival, using a system based on a 50-50 split between the votes of cinema-goers and this year’s People’s Jury, also presented the Silver Biznaga Audience Award to the same film. Using the same criteria, the Silver Biznaga Audience Award in the Official Out-of-Competition Feature Film Section went to the Spanish film Dos días, directed by Gonzaga Manso.

    As for the Zonazine section, its jury, comprising Nicolás Gil Lavedra, Àlex Monner and Paula Palacios, awarded the Silver Biznaga for Best Spanish Film (worth €4,000) to La carn, directed by Joan Porcel and premiered in Tallinn last November, The film also won the Best Actor award for Lluís Garau. Meanwhile, the Silver Biznaga for Best Ibero-American Film (also worth €4,000) went to the Mexican film Oca, directed by Karla Badillo and screened at Toronto, along with a special mention for the Argentine film Los nadadores, directed by Sol Iglesias. The Silver Biznaga for Best Director in this category went to Gwai Lou for the Spanish-Malaysian co-production We Are the Jungle.
