Organizations are spending significant dollars on AI. According to one estimate, U.S. companies spent $37 billion in 2025 for generative AI alone. Increasingly, senior executives and boards are asking about returns and there are looming consequences for leaders that don’t have good answers. Seventy-one percent of global chief information officers in a recent survey said that their AI budgets would be frozen or cut if value from AI couldn’t be demonstrated within two years.
