– Samuel Nacar’s Taranta, Àlex Lora’s The Fissure, Adrià Guxens’ Lóngquán and Olivia Delcán’s La hija bastarda are among the Spanish award-winning titles

Last Friday, 15 March, the MAFIZ awards ceremony took place as part of the industry section of the 29th Malaga Film Festival. Festival director, Juan Antonio Vigar, attributed its success to the presence of 1,600 professionals from 53 countries. Arianne Benedetti, Panama’s Deputy Minister of Culture, described the experience of being this year’s guest of honour as enriching and formally passed the baton to Uruguay, which will take on the role for next year’s Latin American Focus. It was also announced that Madrid will be the focus of Territorios 2027, before the section’s awards were presented (a full list of the award-winning feature films appears at the end of this text).
In the Málaga WIP Spain El Impulso, the Málaga Film Festival award (worth €5,000) went to the documentary Taranta by Samuel Nacar, with a special mention for The Fissure by Àlex Lora, currently in post-production (read more). The Fissure also won the Yagán Films award (with sound post-production services worth €13,000), the Aracne Digital Cinema Award (€20,000 in image post-production) and the Sideral Award, which includes international distribution worth €10,000.
The Acorde Music Library Award (production music and music supervision services worth €1,500) went to Lecho de pasto by Carmela Román, which that also won the Cine y Tele Award (including an advertising page in the magazine). The Abycine Málaga WIP Spain Award – El Impulso, which grants direct selection for international forums, went to Lóngquán, the debut feature by Adrià Guxens (read more).
In the Málaga WIP Iberoamérica section, the Málaga Film Festival Award went to the Brazilian film Pequeñas tragedias, directed by Daniel Nolasco. A special mention was given to the Peruvian production Vacas by Brian Jacobs, which also won the OnlyPost Award. The Río Bravo Award went to La residencia by Mariel García Spooner (Panama), which also received the Yagán Films Award. The Chemistry Award went to Valijero by Esteban Trivisonno (Argentina). The Music Library Acorde Award went to La mujer, el diablo y el fuego by Aurora Caballero (Mexico), and the Latamcinema.com Award went to Meteorito by Sebastián Múnera (Colombia).
In the Málaga Festival Fund Co-Production Event (MAFF) section, the AID Award (consultancy services valued at €10,000) went to La caza y la pesca by María Victoria Andino (Argentina). The 1st Cántico Producciones Award (original music valued at €6,400) went to Aquí me bajo yo by Matías Bize (Chile). The 2nd Cántico Producciones Award (worth €3,400) was shared by to El legado de reina by Tatiana Salamin (Panama) and Los vivos y los patos by José Luis Isoard Arrubarrena (Mexico). The Sideral Award (€5,000 for international distribution) went to Los amigos de mis papás by Romina Tamburello (Argentina).
Finally, the Térrea Award (a €2,000 sustainability grant) went to La hija bastarda, the debut feature by Spanish actress Olivia Delcán. The LH Coach Award (pitching sessions valued at $1,800) was shared by Carretera de supervivencia by Rodrigo García Chapetón (Guatemala), and Los indecentes by Jean Michel Cerf (Uruguay). The Acorde Music Library Awards (€1,500 for production music) went to the Spanish project Videoclub 2001 by Guillermo and Javier Polo, and the Argentine film Los amigos de mis papas, whilst the Acorde Music Library Women Screen Industry Award went to Stella Maris by Laura Muñoz Liaño (Spain).
