Thursday have put their spin on “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes as part of Musora’s Covers On The Spot challenge. For every cover, bands have a few hours to reinvent a mystery track in their own style.

After finding out the song, Thursday are immediately up against the distinctive vocal delivery of vocalist Linda Perry and the song’s iconic arrangement. “It’s the most acrobatic vocal I’ve ever heard in my life, and I don’t have any of those notes in my voice,” vocalist Geoff Rickly says.

After deconstructing the track, they end up reworking it into a heavier version inspired by the Cure. “In this situation, you go with what works,” drummer Tucker Rule says. “Not necessarily where you want the song to go, but where it works, because we’re under a time constraint.”

Later this year, they’ll celebrate the 20th anniversary of their fourth studio album, A City by the Light Divided. Next month, they’ll begin their spring headline tour and will play the 2026 edition of Aftershock later this year.
