Eric Dane‘s family is stepping back into the spotlight a few days shy of a month after his death.
Rebecca Gayheart and her two daughters, Billie and Georgia, walked the red carpet at “The Drama” premiere in L.A. on Tuesday, March 17 2026. Their public presence comes just days after the 2026 Oscars, for which they were not present.
Eric Dane’s family and loved ones surrounded him as he took his final breath on February 19, 2026, after battling with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). During the last year of his life, he gave his all advocating for the disease.
Eric Dane’s Family’s First Public Appearance After His Death
Tuesday, March 17, marked the first time Rebecca Gayheart and her two daughters would be attending a public function since his passing. The mother-daughter trio stepped out on the red carpet in style for the premiere of “The Drama,” seemingly in support of popular actress Zendaya, who was Dane’s co-star on “Euphoria.”
Gayheart attended the Los Angeles event hand in hand with her daughters, clad beautifully in their simple outfits as they tried to flash smiles for the cameras. Billie wore a white lace crop top paired with a matching skirt, a small white Dior bag, and lavender heels. Her sister, Georgia, looked breathtaking in a bubblegum pink dress, clear heels, and clutched a black purse.
Photos uploaded to The Daily Mail show Gayheart in a flared striped dress, which she completed holding a pink purse and strutting in a pair of black lace heels. Billie wore her curly locks in a high puff messy bun while Georgia and her mom left their straight hair down. Zendaya, who worked closely with Dane on one of his final projects, stars in a lead role in “The Drama” alongside Robert Pattinson, who never worked with Dane throughout his lifetime.
The Actor’s Final Screen Role And Goodbye
The TV star played Cal Jacobs, the father of Nate Jacobs, a character played by Jacob Elordi in the Emmy-winning series “Euphoria.” Before his death, Dane returned to the set and completed his scenes portraying the troubled patriarch for the upcoming third season. Although his character was not featured in the trailer for season three, which was released in January, it has been noted that his final performance will be seen on screen when the season premieres on April 12, 2026.
Months before his passing, the “Grey’s Anatomy” star secretly recorded an interview for Netflix. The film titled “Famous Last Words: Eric Dane” was filled with a recollection of his life and deep messages for his daughters. Instructions that it be released only after his death were followed, and the film caught media attention, leaving many fans emotional.
Dane recalled sweet moments he spent with his daughters on the beach and advised them to find love in life. Concluding the 50-minute film, the late actor said, “Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.”
The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Kept Up With His Career Until His Final Days
Dane announced his ALS diagnosis in 2025, and his death came less than a year later. Two months after telling the world about his condition with the incurable disease, he stated that his health would not stop him from continuing his acting career.
“I’m going to ride this ’til the wheels fall off,” he told the outlet in June 2025. “It keeps me sharp. It keeps me moving forward, which is super important right now. I feel great when I’m at work,” the father of two previously said. The TV star admitted that because of his health battle, some setbacks had unfolded, but he will continue to work as his “spirit is always pretty buoyant.”
Gayheart also shared after her husband’s death that he had been working with AI firm ElevenLabs during the final weeks of his life. As shared by The Blast, he aimed to restore his vocal communication through a synthetic voice created using past recordings of his voice.
The Oscars In Memoriam Segment Snub
Fans, as well as the family of the late star, were filled with disappointment to see that the actor was not among the fallen heroes in the industry listed during the Academy Awards main broadcast. They all expressed that they expected Dane, as well as other stars like James Van Der Beek and Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who passed away this past year, to be featured in the honorary segment.

Eric Dane Faced Other Troubles Besides His Battle With ALS
Even though Dane’s sickness, which eventually took his life, has been heavily publicized, the actor world was rocked with other challenges years before ALS came into the picture. Like many other industry stars, the late 53-year-old battled with addiction, relapse, and depression right from his younger days.
Dane had been exposed to drugs right from high school, and he began experimenting with marijuana since then. Years passed by, and he managed to get clean when he was 26 years old. He was cast in the hit TV show in 2006, when he was 33, on which he played his role as Dr. Mark Sloan for eight years. In the face of heightened fame, Dane relapsed, seeking his old ways once more.
The Blast reported that in 2009, the actor’s career was scarred after footage was released showing him, Gayheart, and Kari Ann Peniche, a former beauty queen, naked in a bathtub. The actor and his wife took legal action against the publisher, and they eventually settled out of court the following year. Dane landed a role on “The Last Ship,” where he played a Navy captain. His appearance on the show did not continue after three years as he took time off to address depression.
