Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is set to appear on The Joe Rogan Experience, one of the world’s most popular podcasts.

Poilievre revealed in a social media post on Wednesday that he had recently sat down with host Joe Rogan.

“Fought for Canadian workers and Canadian interests on the world’s biggest podcast. Thank you [Rogan] for an amazing conversation. Let’s get tariff-free trade,” the Opposition leader wrote on X.

A Conservative spokesperson confirmed with CBC News that a three-hour long episode of Rogan’s podcast featuring a conversation with Poilievre will be released Thursday.

    Rogan controversies

Rogan’s show ranks near or at the top of podcast charts on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Podcasts — with over 20 million subscribers on YouTube alone.

But the podcast host has faced backlash in the past for his controversial comments.

Musicians, including Canadian Neil Young, pulled their music from Spotify over comments Rogan made regarding COVID-19 vaccines. (Young’s music returned to Spotify after Rogan’s show was no longer exclusively available on the platform).

Rogan also issued an apology in 2022 after facing scrutiny for his use of the N-word in some of his past episodes.

Spotify says it will add advisories to its podcast content about COVID-19 after Joni Mitchell joined Neil Young in pulling music from the platform amid criticism Joe Rogan’s podcast is spreading COVID-19 misinformation.

In a podcast episode after last year’s federal election, Rogan implied he had invited Poilievre on his show during the campaign but the Conservative leader declined.

“I offered to have that Pierre guy come on the podcast. He didn’t do it. Wouldn’t do it, thought it was too problematic or whatever,” Rogan said in the episode.

Poilievre recently appeared on The Bridge podcast, where he said his current approach to interviews is to speak with various new and traditional media outlets.

“I think in order to grow, we have to reach out and talk to people who have different viewpoints than us,” Poilievre told host Peter Mansbridge, former chief correspondent for CBC News.

The Conservative leader was visiting Austin, Texas, where Rogan resides, as part of a larger U.S. trip.
