Liz Choate was a staple on Swamp People during some of the show’s early years, complete with a brief return. Since then, fans have often wondered what happened to her. A few posts on social media have since shed light on the situation.
‘Gator Queen Liz’ First Appeared On Season 2 Of Swamp People
Liz Choate, also known as Liz Cavalier, was known as Swamp People‘s “Gator Queen.” During her time on the show, she was Troy Landry’s hunting partner and also often worked alongside her daughter, Jessica.
First appearing in the show’s second season, Liz was originally based in Pierre Part before moving to Pecan Island starting with the next season. However, Liz was no longer part of the cast when the show returned for a seventh season in early 2016.
That said, this wasn’t the last viewers would see of Liz on Swamp People. She would later return for Season 12. However, she has not otherwise been part of the series, which recently debuted Season 17 this past January.
Back in 2015, Liz shared that leaving the series wasn’t her own decision. Instead, she claimed she was let go due to a cast overhaul. Liz shared the news of her exit in a post on Facebook, just weeks before the Season 6 finale aired.

At the time, Liz shared, “Due to unknown reasons by the production company ‘Original Media,’ my family and myself, along with other original cast members, besides Jeromy and David, will no longer be participating in the Swamp People series starting with Season 7. It saddens me to know that our fans are the ones who will suffer from these unexplained actions by the new management of this production company. REALITY.”

A few days later, Liz revealed that she was told to take down her post by production. However, she refused, noting, “I wear my heart on my sleeve and I will die that way.”
Despite this, Liz was willing to return for the show during Season 12 in 2021. At the time, she appeared alongside her stepson, Destin. However, this appeared to be a one-and-done deal, with Liz not returning after the season.
As noted by TV Insider, on Facebook, Liz has shown that she still partakes in Louisiana gator hunting. Focusing on her family, including her grandchildren, she also often shares photos of handmade crafts on social media.
Despite leaving the show, Liz does keep her fellow Swamp People cast members in mind. As the outlet noted, she shared her condolences in 2025 in light of the passing of Junior Edwards. At the time, she wrote, “Mr. Junior Edwards, one of the truest fishermen I knew, May God bless his family!!! He was the ‘King of the Swamp!!!’ Always made us Laugh, I had nothing but respect for this man, hard working man.”
