For months, legendary NFL quarterback and current FOX Sports broadcaster Tom Brady has been teasing a flag football game.
On Saturday, NFL legends and current players will clash at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles for a televised flag football game on FOX.
The game features Brady as a co-captain with Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl winning quarterback Jalen Hurts against Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow and some members of the U.S. National flag football team.
Jayden Daniels, Rob Gronkowski, DeVonta Smith, Alvin Kamara, Stefon Diggs, and others will compete. Already, social media videos of Burrow getting intercepted by WWE superstar Logan Paul have taken the internet by storm.
It certainly feels like Brady’s big event has more juice than the NFL Pro Bowl, which could be a bad thing for the NFL.
The Pro Bowl has suffered for nearly a decade. Most recently, the NFL has converted it into a flag football game that was played in a convention center on Tuesday before the Super Bowl in front of hardly any fans.
The NFL struggled to get real superstars to compete in the Pro Bowl, leading the AFC to be represented by Burrow, Shedeur Sanders and Joe Flacco – three players who probably didn’t deserve the nod after their respective seasons last year.
But in the drop of a hat, Brady was able to get some top names in the NFL and pop culture to compete in what feels like a showcase for the 2028 Olympics. Multiple NFL players have expressed interest in competing in flag football during their inaugural season in the Olympic games in Los Angeles in 2028. Of course, the nation’s top flag football players have put up a bit of resistance – stating that it’s a different experience and skills compared to playing in the NFL.
Regardless of the semantics, football is America’s new pastime. Certainly, Team USA needs to be a heavy favorite in the 2028 Olympics. The team is likely to feature a few NFL stars mashed up with some experienced flag footballers.
But Brady is giving the universe a glimpse into what this could look like. He still carries that level of respect in the sport.
On top of all of this, Brady himself is never saying never to the opportunity of being involved with the Olympic team in 2028. Could you imagine TB12 quarterbacking Team USA at 50 years old?
He won his final Super Bowl at 43. While Olympic involvement would likely be an advisory role, it’ll be fun to see what product Brady has assembled on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.
