Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba has won the silver medal in women’s curling at the 2026 Women’s World Curling Championships at the Winsport Event Centre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Sunday. In the gold medal game, Canada was defeated 7-5 by Switzerland.

The Canadian silver medalists were Einarson, the skip, third Val Sweeting of Edmonton, Alberta, second Shannon Birchard of Winnipeg, Manitoba and lead Karlee Burgess of Truro, Nova Scotia. Even though Burgess is born in Nova Scotia, she is currently residing in Winnipeg.

Switzerland beat Canada twice at the Women’s World Curling Championships. The Swiss team skipped by Xenia Schwaller, beat Canada 6-5 in 11 ends on Tuesday night. The only other team to beat Team Canada was Norway, as the Norwegian team skipped by Torild Bjornstad, beat Canada 10-6 on Thursday night.

Sweden won the bronze medal. In the third place game on Sunday morning, Sweden’s Isabella Wranaa beat Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa 8-5.

This was Einarson’s best ever result at a Women’s World Curling Championship. Prior to Sunday, she finished sixth in Calgary in 2021, won bronze in Prince George, British Columbia in 2022, and bronze in Sandviken, Sweden in 2023.

Einarson comments on winning gold. “It is pretty amazing to medal on the world stage. It is an upgrade from our previous bronze. It still feels very special. They didn’t really miss. They didn’t give us many opportunities.”
