Simon Cowell has become known for his work with a number of competition-based reality shows, on both sides of the pond. However, insiders have claimed that someone close to him might want him to leave this life behind. In fact, they’ve also touched on his own views on the matter.
Simon Cowell Recently Made His Return To Television Last Year
Cowell is a record executive and television personality. He is known for serving as a judge on Pop Idol, Britain’s Got Talent, American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and both the British and American versions of The X Factor.
In his personal life, Cowell is known for his relationship with Lauren Silverman. Their son Eric was born in 2014. The two also confirmed their engagement in early 2022.
Back in 2025, Cowell made his return to television with the 18th season of Britain’s Got Talent. He is also part of Season 19. However, inside sources have suggested a conflict between Cowell’s personal and professional worlds. As one insider hinted, Silverman may want him to “give up the ghost” and walk away from television.
As noted by Radar Online, the show’s launch episode had one of its lowest debuts, at just three million viewers. This was amid speculation that the format is risking cancellation. Meanwhile, the outlet also noted that his Netflix docuseries, Simon Cowell: The Next Act, failed to make much of a splash.
The Insider Assured That These Feelings Were Coming From A Place Of Love
The source alluded to this, sharing, “In her eyes, the TV and entertainment landscape has changed significantly. And there have been moments, lately, where continuing to press ahead has risked him embarrassing himself in ways that wouldn’t have happened at the height of his success.”
The insider also assured that this was coming out of a place of concern. They continued, “It’s not coming from a critical or dismissive place – it’s rooted in genuine concern for him. She can clearly see how much the industry has evolved and how different the audience response is now, and she believes there’s a certain dignity in knowing when to step back, rather than continuing to chase the kind of dominance he once had.”
Despite this, sources claim that Cowell has no current plans to retire. One even described him as a workaholic who is constantly on the lookout for the next big act or format.
Another source claimed, “Simon has never really viewed himself as the kind of person who walks away or winds things down. In his mind, setbacks are just part of the cycle, not a reason to stop altogether.” They described him as viewing any failures as a chance to reinvent himself and move forward.
However, as the outlet shared, even if these concerns don’t bother Cowell directly, they could impact his career in the long run. As one source explained, “Even if he insists it doesn’t bother him, the people around him are aware that repeated comments like that can shape perception over time. It’s something his inner circle keeps an eye on, particularly as questions about his relevance become more part of the conversation.”
