Tiger Woods says he wants to play at the Masters next month and will do everything possible to make an appearance at Augusta.
Woods made his competitive return last night, playing for Jupiter Links against Los Angeles GC in the TGL final and is now targeting the season’s first major which gets underway on April 9.
The 50-year-old underwent back surgery in October and has not played an on-course event since the 2024 Open at Royal Troon. He did play in TGL last February.
Asked about the Masters, he said: “This body … it doesn’t recover like it did when it was 24, 25. It doesn’t mean I’m not trying. I’ve had a couple bad injuries here over the past years that I’ve had to fight through and it’s taken some time. But I keep trying. I want to play.
“I’ve loved the Masters tournament, I’ve loved being there since I was 19 years old, so it’s meant a lot to me and my family over the years. I’m going to be there either way with The Loop [a short course he designed] that’s going up there, as well as the champions dinner.
“We’ll see how it goes. I’ll be practising, playing at home this week and keep trying to make progress.”
Woods unable to inspire TGL victory
Woods’ team were unable to hit back from a 1-0 match deficit to LA, going down 9-2 in the second of the best-of-three final.
But the 15-time major winner looked good, albeit playing indoor golf is a long way from walking 18 holes around the undulating terrain of Augusta National.
“It was fine physically,” added Woods.
It was a good night for Englishmen Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose, who along with Sahith Theegala, walked away with the $9million team prize.
Max Homa and Tom Kim made up the Jupiter Links team with Woods.
