Valerie Grenier of Ottawa, Ontario has won her third career World Cup gold medal in alpine skiing. It came on Wednesday in Lillehammer, Norway. This was also Grenier’s second World Cup medal of the season and sixth of her career.

Grenier posted a winning time of 2:16.79. Mina Fuerst Holtmann of Norway won the silver medal with a time of 2:17.22. Julia Scheib of Austria won the bronze medal with a time of 2:17.36. Grenier reached the podium by 0.74 seconds. Sara Hector of Sweden finished in fourth place with a time of 2:17.53.

This was the final women’s World Cup giant slalom race of the season. Grenier finished in seventh place in the women’s World Cup giant slalom standings with 312 points. The Crystal Globe champion in women’s giant slalom was Scheib with 720 points.

Grenier’s other podium finish this season was a bronze medal in a women’s giant slalom race in  Tremblant, Quebec on December 6. Grenier’s other two World Cup gold medals came in women’s giant slalom races in Kranjska Goran, Slovenia. The first came on January 7, 2023, and the second came on January 6, 2024.

Grenier has won two other World Cup alpine skiing bronze medals in her career. She placed third in a giant slalom in Grandvalira Soldeu-El Tarter, Andorra on March 19 and third in a downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy on January 26, 2024. The gold medal for Grenier will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2030 Olympic Winter Games in the French Alps.
