Netflix has just delivered the trailer for the second season of the comedy TV show Running Point, by creators Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, showcasing Kate Hudson’s Isla Gordon in her ongoing rebrand from carefree wild child to a respected, disciplined sports coach running her family’s basketball team.
The first season debuted on the platform in February of last year and took only a month to rank in the top spot of Netflix’s US scoreboard. From this, Running Point was renewed for a second season in early March 2025. Additional cast members include Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks and Toby Sandeman.
The show’s second season sees stars Octavia Spencer, Lisa Rinna and Nicole Richie join the ensemble cast.
Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the sports comedy holds a 79% rating from a combined 53 critics, with praise towards Hudson’s charisma and an amusing atmosphere. Meanwhile, 23 Metacritics scored Running Point 65 out of 100 for its efforts.
Variety shares an official synopsis: “With the franchise finally rebounding after last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam (Theroux). What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly manoeuvring behind the scenes to reclaim his post, turning every misstep into ammunition. Every decision on and off the court counts. To survive the family power plays and the scrutiny of the board, she’ll have to rip up last season’s game plan and come up with a whole new playbook if she wants to close out the season on top.”
“We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show,” Kaling told TUDUM when the renewal was first announced.
“We still cannot believe the response from audiences — thank you to everyone who has watched! Thank you to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our star who brought this show to life, Kate Hudson, and, of course, executive producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.”
Running Point returns to Netflix on April 23rd.
