Nintendo’s 2026 Switch 2 plans reportedly include some blasts from the past.
In a new podcast, reliable leaker NateTheHate teased that Nintendo is working on a new Star Fox game and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. VGC, another credible source, corroborated NateTheHate’s claims. NateTheHate said the game is targeting a summer release and is said to be a “classic style” Star Fox that will also feature multiplayer support.
This is particularly notable news since the last new Star Fox games were a decade ago, 2016’s Star Fox Zero and Guard for the Wii U. (Interestingly, the last major piece of new Star Fox content actually came in Ubisoft Toronto’s 2018 toys-to-life game Starlink: Battle for Atlas.)
These reports also come after Nintendo revealed that series hero Fox McCloud is in next month’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, where he’ll be voiced by Hit Man star Glen Powell. Clearly, Nintendo is hoping the movie will help get people interested in a new Star Fox. Otherwise, most of today’s younger generation would likely know Fox from his appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.
Additionally, NateTheHate and VGC state that a “major” remake of Ocarina of Time is coming in the latter half of 2026, closer to the holidays. This is being done to coincide with this year’s 40th anniversary celebrations of the Zelda series. It will be interesting to see what a Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time would even look like, especially after the last re-release of the game, the 3DS’ Ocarina of Time 3D, was just a remaster of the original N64 game.
Finally, NateTheHate claimed that the long-awaited next 3D Mario game won’t be coming until 2027. Outside of the smaller Bowser’s Fury expansion added to the 2021 Switch remaster of 3D World, the last new 3D Mario was 2017’s Odyssey. That team went on to release last year’s acclaimed Donkey Kong Bananza.
Overall, these reports are noteworthy since they help paint a better picture of the Switch 2’s 2026 lineup. Following Q1 releases like Mario Tennis Fever and Pokémon Pokopia, the rest of the year is left rather open for the console. While we know of some other high-profile exclusives, like The Duskbloods, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Splatoon Raiders, we don’t yet have release dates for any of them.
NateTheHate also mentioned that we likely won’t get a “general Direct” presentation until June, so outside of smaller announcements and showcases, we might not hear too much more from Nintendo until then. In the meantime, though, Nintendo has confirmed that it will charge less for its first-party Switch 2 games, starting with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in May.
