In a newly posted Instagram video, actor Glen Powell announced he is voicing the role of Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie and an adaptation of Nintendo’s popular 2007 video game “Super Mario Galaxy.”
The announcement comes just one day after a new poster revealed Fox McCloud will appear as a character in the film, which sees Mario and friends venturing into space and tackling challenges outside the Mushroom Kingdom.
Fox McCloud, a space pilot, is the main character in the “Star Fox” video games. He’s also one of the original characters in Nintendo’s “Super Smash Bros” fighting game.
Glen Powell joins the already announced cast of Chris Pratt and Charlie Day, who are back as Mario and Luigi. Other stars returning in the Mario sequel include Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. The sequel is also introducing other beloved characters, including Donald Glover as Yoshi, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., and Brie Larson as Rosalina.
Powell most recently starred in the black comedy thriller How to Make a Killing (now in cinemas) and was the lead in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man last year. He had his breakout role in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022.
Synopsis
Having thwarted Bowser’s previous plot to marry Princess Peach, Mario and Luigi now face a fresh threat in Bowser Jr., who is determined to liberate his father from captivity and restore the family legacy. Alongside companions new and old, the brothers travel across the stars to stop the young heir’s crusade.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases in UK cinemas on April 1st.
