An exclusive report from Deadline has confirmed that Project Hail Mary star Ryan Gosling will appear in the next project by filmmaking duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the same minds that brought about the Oscar-winning, highly acclaimed sci-fi family drama spectacle Everything Everywhere All at Once in 2022. The Daniels will share producer credits with Jonathan Wang for Universal Pictures.
The project remains untitled and without officially revealed plot points, but production will begin this summer in Los Angeles. Jacqueline Garell, Director of Production Development, and Sara Scott, Exec VP of Production Development, are in charge of overseeing the project.
Ryan Gosling is on a high with his recent appearance in Project Hail Mary, the 2026 adaptation of Andy Weir’s 2020 sci-fi novel of the same name, directed by the duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The film has grossed $164 million from a budget of $200-248 million, becoming Amazon MGM’s biggest debut and the eighth highest-grossing film of 2026, right behind Sony’s GOAT ($175 million)and in front of Fantawild’s Boonie Bears: The Hidden Projector ($152 million). This gross amount also places Project Hail Mary as one of Gosling’s most impressive opening weekend performances.
The Daniels have recently stepped off production for Universal and Focus Features’ The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist, which has just been released. Fans are also eager to see Gosling in his first franchise appearance in Star Wars: Starfighter by writer Jonathan Trooper and director Shawn Levy, coming in as the 13th feature film instalment in George Lucas’s sci-fi epic Star Wars, due for a cinematic release on the 28th May, 2027.
Project Hail Mary is currently playing in all cinemas.
