Peter Alexander recently announced his departure from Today and NBC News while on the air. While he gave a few reasons for the change, inside sources claim that there could be more to the story. In fact, some allege that he already has a new job lined up.
Peter Alexander Leaving NBC News After More Than Two Decades
Alexander is a journalist known for his work with NBC News. He became a White House News correspondent after covering White House news in late 2012.
By 2018, Alexander became a co-anchor on Today‘s Saturday editions. He has also been part of many NBC programs, including NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, and Dateline NBC.
Recently, Alexander shared that he’s leaving NBC News after 22 years at the network. This will include his role as Today‘s Saturday co-host.
Alexander announced this departure while on the air on March 28. At the time, he noted that he wanted to spend time with his family, who live in Washington, D.C., while his work with Today is based in New York City.
Other NBC News Alumni Have Also Made The Transition To MS NOW
At the time, Alexander shared, “I’ve been away from home more than 80 nights in the last seven months. More than 200 Friday nights away from my family in the last seven years. So, in this limited window before my daughters lose interest in hanging out with me…I’m eager to carve out a better balance between my personal and professional lives.”
However, according to inside sources, Alexander might already have a new job lined up. According to The Los Angeles Times, people familiar with the situation have claimed that he is transitioning into a role with MS NOW.
MS NOW was formerly part of MSNBC, rebranding itself in 2025 after separating itself from NBCUniversal. While its headquarters were in New York City, it also maintains a bureau in Washington, D.C.
According to the outlet, insiders claim that Alexander will serve as chief national reporter for MS NOW. He will allegedly anchor the 11 AM hour on the network, taking over for Ana Cabrera, who is reportedly leaving.
If this is the case, Alexander would find himself in familiar company. Other NBC News journalists have also moved to MS NOW. This includes Jacob Soboroff, Vaughn Hillyard, and Brandy Zadrozny.
