John Hannah is set to reprise his role as Jonathan Carnahan in The Mummy 4.
The legendary horror franchise The Mummy is set to return with a long-awaited fourth instalment. He will reunite with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who led the original two films. Weisz didn’t return for the third film, but returns for the new film.
The veteran British actor is best known in film for his roles in The Mummy and Four Weddings and a Funeral. He also has a prominent television presence. He is well known for roles in shows like Spartacus and Marvel’s Agents of Shield. He recently made a short but striking appearance in an episode of HBO’s The Last of Us.
Hannah is returning to the role of Jonathan Carnahan, the character he portrayed in every other film in the original trilogy. Carnahan is the brother of Weisz’s Evelyn O’Connell and accompanied his sister and brother-in-law, Rick O’Connell, on their excavations and digs. It will be the first time all three characters have appeared on screen together since The Mummy Returns in 2001.
It has been 27 years since the release of the original film in the franchise. There have been a further 18 years since the last film, the much-maligned The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
The plot of the newest entry in the franchise is as yet unknown. However, we know who will be bringing it to the screen. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not 2), of Radio Silence, will direct. David Coggeshall (The Family Plan) will write the script for the newest entry in the franchise.
Filming is due to take place in London and Morocco later this year. No other casting information is yet unknown, but will be revealed ahead of filming beginning.
The Mummy 4 is in cinemas on May 19th, 2028.
