Jimmy Kimmel recently had a few choice words concerning a member of President Donald Trump’s cabinet. Since then, a few figures have spoken out about his comments, including CNN personality Scott Jennings, among others. Kimmel himself has also responded to these comments.
Scott Jennings Responded To One Jimmy Kimmel Monologue
Jennings is a political commentator and writer who previously served as the special assistant to the president and deputy director of political affairs during the George W. Bush administration. He joined CNN in 2017 and The Los Angeles Times in 2019.
Recently, Jennings had a few words for late show host Jimmy Kimmel after a recent joke. For his part, the comedian has been the host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003.
During a recent episode of his show, Kimmel poked fun at new Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s job history. At the time, he quipped, “The now former senator of Oklahoma… before he was elected to the Senate, Markwayne Mullin was a low-level MMA fighter and a plumber. That’s right, we have a plumber protecting us from terrorism now!”
This joke later earned a response from Jennings on his podcast with a segment titled, “Kimmel Insults Working Class America.” After playing a clip from Kimmel’s show, he asked his audience, “Ask yourself this question. If you had to be governed by 100 plumbers or 100 sneering, elitist, broken-brained, know-nothing, hack liberal comedians in Hollywood, what would you choose?”
Kimmel Got A Few Responses Over The Joke, Including From President Donald Trump
For his part, the CNN alum treated the issue as a reflection on class. Jennings then supplied his own answer to the question he just asked, expressing, “I know what I would choose. I’d take the plumbers, the working class, every single time.”
Jennings wasn’t the only one to criticize Kimmel for the joke. In a later episode, Kimmel himself claimed that President Trump called in to Fox in light of the joke.

As Kimmel expressed, “His apple polishers are all in a tizzy because I made light of the fact that his new head of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, before he was a senator, was a plumber. And now he’s the head of Homeland Security, which is not necessarily the kind of resume you might hope for, for the person in charge of protecting us from terrorism.”
During the episode, Kimmel claimed that his words were “twisted” into an insult against plumbers. He later claimed, “I wouldn’t put a plumber in charge of Homeland Security for the same reason I wouldn’t call a five-star general to pull a rat out of my toilet, OK?” He also quipped that he was “upset that he isn’t still a plumber,” as noted by Mediaite.
