Sheinelle Jones was recently absent during an episode of Today, and it appears she will be away from the show for a while. Since then, fans have been asking what is going on, especially on social media. However, a few different sources, including one of Jones’ co-workers, have been sharing what’s going on.
A Recent Guest Co-Host On Today Even Asked About Sheinelle Jones
Jones first joined Today in 2014 as part of Weekend Today. In 2019, she became a co-host on the show’s third hour.
In December 2025, it was announced that Jones would become Jenna Bush Hager’s co-host on the fourth hour, which became Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, taking over for Hoda Kotb. By January, she had departed Today‘s third hour.
Recently, it was announced that Jones would be taking a week-long break from the fourth hour. Viewers will not see her on the show from March 30 to April 3. In her absence, Jenna shared that she will be working with celebrity guest stars during this time.
On the Monday episode, guest co-host Matt Rogers asked Jenna where Sheinelle was. She explained that Jones’ kids were on Spring Break from school, and she was taking time off to be with them. She also appeared to have other work obligations.
While Not On Today, Viewers Also Saw Sheinelle On Another Show
That said, Jones has still been keeping busy. She notably stopped by Good Day to promote her new book, Through Mom’s Eyes. On social media, she also shared a clip of her recording the audiobook version of the book, which itself is based on a recurring Today segment that interviews the mothers of celebrities.
As noted by The U.S. Sun, a few other stars are set to help fill in for Jones during the week. Such names include Alix Earle, Olivia Munn, Sharon Stone, Jaafar Jackson, and Arsenio Hall.
As the outlet noted, when this share was made on social media, many fans were left wondering what had happened to Sheinelle. Among those who didn’t see the Monday episode, a few also wondered if Jenna was also taking a break.
That said, many fans were excited to see the guests. As one fan wrote, “What a wonderful surprise!! Was so glad to see Justin again, but now Matt too?? They were my favorites, brought some much needed new energy to the show. Loved Olivia Munn, too. Oh, & will love seeing Willie, wish we did more often.”
As previously reported, Jones was on medical leave from Today, starting in November 2024, to help care for her husband, Uche Ojeh. Tragically, on May 23, 2025, it was announced that he had died of aggressive glioblastoma.
