Beta Cinema has unveiled first looks at the upcoming thriller High End from actor-director Antonia Campbell-Hughes.
The film’s cast includes rising UK star Raffey Cassidy (Killing of a Sacred Deer), Alessandro Nivola (The Brutalist), Oscar and Bafta nominee Guy Pearce (Memento), and Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie).
Campbell-Hughes writes and directs the thriller, her second feature-length film after It Is In Us All, which won the Extraordinary Cinematic Vision Award at SXSW in 2022. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the affluent expatriate community in Geneva. Young intern Nollaig ignites a darkly visceral shift within the privileged home of her host family when she steals their precious diamonds, absorbing them into her body, and in the process unmasks the deeper truths beneath their glittering privilege. The synopsis for High End, via Beta Cinema:
“Twenty-two-year-old Nollaig (Cassidy) has secured an internship at the UN in Geneva with the help of her well-connected uncle Nigel (Pearce), staying with the elegantly-pressed and affluent Helen (Riseborough) and David Wilcox (Nivola) and their two young children. The Wilcox world is a masquerade of opulent wealth and privilege, and Nollaig quickly tips the dynamic in the house, with Helen becoming particularly drawn to her new guest. Nollaig’s own fascination takes a turn as she begins to steal diamonds from the family – using techniques learnt from Nigel – swallowing the jewels whole. Mineral and flesh, absorbing the very nutrients of their wealth, Nollaig’s actions begin to strip the Wilcox family back to their true selves.”

According to Deadline, production on High End is approaching its final days of principal photography in Dublin, Ireland.
A release date is TBD.
