If you live in the Valencian Community, there are several tax deductions you may be able to apply to your income tax return this year.

The start of Spain’s income tax campaign is fast approaching. From April 8th until June 30th, you must complete your annual declaración de la renta income tax form for the income you received in 2025.

While filling out tax forms and gathering documents is never fun, the good news is that this year there are several deductions you can benefit from to help ease the tax burden.

If you live in the region of Valencia, there are a whopping 40 regional tax deductions available this year. Here are five of the most common, including new ones for this year, and who can benefit.

    Gym and health services

Although deductions for gyms and sports activities are not new, the government is planning on modifying the income limits and therefore the number of people who can benefit from this, though it is still pending parliamentary approval.

Under the new rules you will be able to deduct up to 30 percent of gym and sport expenses, up to a maximum of €150 per taxpayer, provided your total taxable base is under €32,000 for individuals or €48,000 for joint filing. You can also get greater deductions if you’re over 65 or disabled.

Expenses that qualify for this deduction include gym, sports clubs, membership fees, purchase of mandatory equipment for federated sports and services provided by sports coaches.

Health expenses you can deduct include services provided by traumatologists, dietitians/nutritionists, physiotherapists and podiatrists.

Psychology sessions will also be tax deductible at 30 percent, up to €100, as will the purchase of prescription glasses and contact lenses.

    Renting main residence

One of the biggest new deduction in place this year is for those who rent their main home. The general deduction is 20 percent of the rent, with a limit of €800. If you’re 35 years old or younger, have a disability of 65 percent or more, or are victim of gender violence, this rises to 25 percent with a limit of €950.

There are several requirements you must meet to be eligible for this. The fist is that lease agreement must be dated after April 23rd, 1998, with a minimum duration of one year. Your taxable income and savings must not exceed €30,000 for individuals or €47,000 for a joint declaration.

    Flood repairs

For those affected by the devastating floods of October 29th, 2024, the Valencian government has approved another special tax deduction. This equals 100 percent of the repair costs for damages directly caused by the storm to your primary residence, with a maximum limit of €2,000, applicable exclusively for the 2024 and 2025 tax years.

    Family

Like in previous years, there are deductions if you had a baby in 2025 or adopted a child, likewise if you have a large family or are a single parent.  The maximum amount is €300 for each child born or adopted only if you earn less than €27,000 for an individual return or less than €44,000 for a joint return.

There are also deductions for childcare for children under three, work-life balance and school supplies. If you don’t yet have children but want to, there are also deductions for fertility costs.

Energy efficiency and residence in municipalities at risk of depopulation

Other tax deductions are available to those who made their homes more energy efficient in 2025, such as changing the windows for double glazing or adding more insulation. If you moved to a municipality at risk of depopulation during last year, there are also benefits available.

If you think any of these might apply to you or you want to find out about the other deductions available, it’s important to contact your gestor. Even if you’re not sure, it’s worth checking with them if something is deductible or not.
