Aaron Carter‘s mother, Jane Schneck, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to apply for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The effort aims to honor the late singer, who died in 2022, celebrate his contributions to entertainment, and give fans a meaningful way to recognize his legacy. Schneck’s fundraising effort comes shortly after she lost a legal battle to block the closure of Carter’s estate.

Aaron Carter’s mother, Jane Schneck, is raising funds on GoFundMe to apply for her son’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As she told TMZ, Carter “would’ve loved” having a star.

Schneck shared with the outlet that she recalls visiting Hollywood Boulevard when Aaron was about 12 years old and telling him, “You’re going to be there someday,” to which the young singer replied, “Yeah.” Moreover, she said L.A. holds plenty of cherished memories of the time she spent with her son. According to Schneck, Aaron’s siblings, Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, and Aaron’s twin sister Angel, support the fundraising effort.

The 2026 Walk of Fame application deadline is May 15 and comes with an application fee of $275. The selection criteria include professional achievement, community contributions, and longevity in the business. The Selection Committee then chooses up to 30 of the “most qualified artists.” If selected, a sponsorship fee of $85,000 must be paid for the creation, installation, and maintenance of the star.

In February, Schneck filed court documents claiming that Aaron’s former fiancée, Melanie Martin, illegally withdrew about $24,000 from her son’s account. Martin, on the other hand, said she had joint accounts with the late singer and denied doing anything illegally. The two parties battled in court over what remained of Carter’s estate before his death.

Schneck fought to keep her son’s estate from closing, but according to reports, Aaron was in debt at the time of his death. A judge ruled Aaron’s estate “insolvent,” which means his debts exceeded his assets. As reported by The Blast, the non-cash assets were awarded to Martin for her and Aaron’s son, Prince Lyric, who was born in 2021.

Aaron Carter Once Applied For Emancipation

Aaron began his professional music career at 7 years old, releasing his first album in 1997 when he was just 9. In the years following, he sold millions of albums worldwide and cemented himself as a teen heartthrob in the early 2000s.

In 2003, at 15 years old, Aaron filed for legal emancipation from his parents, claiming that his mother, who served as his manager alongside his father, mismanaged his finances and withdrew more than $100,000 from his accounts without his knowledge.

In January 2024, the issue was resolved, with Schneck saying, “I’m looking forward to putting my family back together and working together side by side with all my children.” Scott Salomon, the family’s lawyer, said Aaron sat down with his parents to discuss the “financial misunderstandings,” which were resolved. Aaron also withdrew his petition for emancipation.

The Singer Had A Complicated Relationship With His Mother

Throughout the years, Aaron talked about his tumultuous relationship with his mother, saying that she was an alcoholic and was only concerned about fame and money. In 2004, the singer opened up to PEOPLE, saying that he doesn’t like being around his mother and sister, Leslie.

“I really don’t like being around them. All I hear is ‘You need to go on television and make me look better.’ I just think, ‘Just be my mother, just be my sister.’ It’s all about money and publicity for them. My last word to (my mother) is that she’s the adult, not me. But it seems to be switched around,” said Aaron.

In 2019, the mother and son appeared on the show The Doctors, where Aaron confronted his mother about her drinking. In the episode, he expressed his fear that she would die soon if she didn’t get help. Months following the intervention, it was reported that Schneck left rehab early against professional advice.

Aaron struggled with his mental health, sharing in 2019 that he had “multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety, and manic depression.” In November 2022, he was discovered unresponsive in his bathtub and was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Aerosol cans and prescription bottles were found in the bathroom and bedroom, according to reports.

As The Blast previously reported, his cause of death was determined to be accidental drowning after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam.
