But while April 22 is a focal point, the real power lies in carrying these mindful actions beyond one day. Small, intentional steps can evolve into year-round habits that benefit the planet and your own well-being. This Earth Day, consider committing to one thoughtful action and see how it strengthens your connection to the world around you.
1. Conduct a one-day Earth audit
Choose a single day to pay attention to water use, energy consumption, waste, and the distance your food travels. Notice where you can make realistic, ongoing changes to reduce your carbon footprint.
2. Power down
Turn off unnecessary lights, unplug electronics that aren’t in use, and power down devices instead of leaving them on standby. Swap in energy-efficient bulbs for incandescent or halogen lights, use power bars to easily shut off multiple devices at once, and take advantage of natural daylight whenever possible. Hanging laundry to dry is another way to conserve energy.
3. Repair before you replace
Give old items new life—fix clothes, accessories, furniture, shoes, backpacks, and household items instead of discarding them.
