In an advisory issued today, WestJet said that it is “implementing near-term measures” as the aviation industry responds to ongoing supply chain challenges due to strained access in the Strait of Hormuz.
WestJet said that it has not made schedule changes due to recent news of fuel availability at this time; however, it is evaluating its summer schedule and may adjust flying to balance fuel supply.
The airline adds that it is in regular communication with fuel suppliers and monitoring the global fuel situation closely.
WestJet’s current actions in response to fuel cost
As fuel prices continue to rise, WestJet has adjusted some flying to align with demand and best manage associated fuel costs.
This includes consolidating flights on lower demand routes and adjusting the travel period for seasonal offerings.
WestJet reduced capacity by approximately:
- One per cent in April
- Three per cent in May
- And five and a half per cent in June
Guests impacted by these changes are provided with re-accommodation options, most within the same day as their original departure.
