Two men were found dead in two days on the University of California, Berkeley, campus this week, with campus police saying foul play is not suspected.
UC Berkeley Police Sgt. Jacob Westlie told Oakland’s KTVU that a dead man was found at around noon Wednesday in bushes near the school’s Sproul Hall.
The deceased appeared to be in his 40s or 50s, according to The Berkeley Scanner. The Alameda County Medical Examiner & Coroner’s Office is working to find out how he died.
The police also told KTVU that the unidentified man did not appear to be affiliated with the university.
The school’s police said the other dead man, found Tuesday, was a student at the school.
They said in a statement that the student fell from a residential building at around 7:53 p.m. Tuesday and was declared dead at the scene.
The coroner’s office identified him as William Yi Lu, 21, a junior majoring in theater and performance, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Officials have not said whether they believe the student’s fall was accidental or a suicide attempt.
“We are saddened by this tragic news and wish to extend our condolences to this person’s family and friends,” UC Berkeley spokesman Adam Ratcliff said in a statement, according to the school’s student newspaper, The Daily Californian.
