As IPL 2026 crosses the midway stage, former India batter Wasim Jaffer has shared his picks for the three most outstanding individual performances of the season so far. Jaffer chose young batting sensation’s power-packed performance, a star spinner’s magical show, and ace opener’s sizzling stuff as performances that left a major impact on the tournament.
Wasim Jaffer backs youth brilliance and bowling excellence
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer praised Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s fearless century against Sunrisers Hyderabad as one of the finest knocks of the season. The teenage batter smashed 103 off just 37 deliveries, hammering five boundaries and 12 sixes in a breathtaking display of power-hitting.
Jaffer also made sure to acknowledge the value of bowlers in what has largely been a batter-dominated IPL season. He singled out Chennai Super Kings’ star performer Akeal Hosein’s brilliant spell of 4/17 against Mumbai Indians in the high-voltage CSK vs MI clash as one of the best bowling performances of the tournament.
He completed his list with Sunrisers Hyderabad Abhishek Sharma’s unbeaten 135 off 68 balls against Delhi Capitals, calling it another innings that stood apart because of its authority and match-winning impact.
“I think Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s first hundred has to be one of the best. In bowling, I would say Akeal Hosein’s performance. You have to give credit to the bowlers as well, because this IPL has been very batter-dominated so far. So Akeal Hosein’s spell, especially in that CSK vs Mumbai El Clásico, was top class. And I think one of Abhishek Sharma’s recent innings, where he scored a hundred, was also outstanding,” said Jaffer.
Trio continue to dominate IPL 2026 headlines
Suryavanshi has quickly become one of the biggest stories of IPL 2026. At just 15 years old, the Rajasthan Royals youngster has already scored two centuries this season and is rewriting records with every outing. His explosive 103 against SRH further strengthened his growing reputation after an outstanding Under-19 World Cup campaign.
In eight matches so far, he has piled up 357 runs at an average of 44.63 while maintaining a stunning strike rate of over 200. His fearless approach has made him one of the most exciting players of the season.
For Chennai Super Kings, Hosein has brought control and class to the spin attack. His 4/17 against Mumbai Indians, which also included a maiden over, played a major role in one of CSK’s most memorable wins this year. With an economy rate of 4.25, he has been among the most reliable bowlers in pressure situations.
Meanwhile, Abhishek continues to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad’s aggressive batting unit from the top. His unbeaten 135 against Delhi Capitals showcased his ability to dominate any bowling attack. Across eight matches, he has scored 380 runs at an average above 54 and a strike rate close to 212, proving why he remains one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the country.
