The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is set to take place. However, a few figures have shared that they won’t be in attendance, just as one figure in particular shared that they would be going. Among those weighing in on the story are some of the co-hosts on The View, who shared that they wouldn’t be attending during an episode of the show.

The 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner Is Set To Take Place On April 25

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is an annual event hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association, an organization of journalists that covers the White House and the U.S. president. The annual dinner first started in 1921 and has become a Washington, D.C., tradition.

The event is traditionally attended by the president and the vice president. Since Calvin Coolidge, nearly every president has attended at least one dinner.

President Donald Trump previously served as an exception to this rule, at least during his own presidency. However, it has since been announced that he will be attending the event for the first time as president. The event is set to take place on April 25, 2026, at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C.

However, with Trump attending, a few figures have announced that they won’t be going to the dinner this year. In particular, the co-hosts of The View shared that they would be skipping the event on Friday’s episode.

In fact, the co-hosts discussed the event during the episode’s first “hot topic” discussion. Joy Behar kicked things off, saying she was there for the last time Trump attended in 2011, during the Obama administration. Behar noted that Obama roasted Trump during the event, sharing, “He was there one time when I was there, the time that Obama humiliated him, and he went bananas, I was there. So, here’s the situation… A guy that hates the press is at a dinner that honors the press. You can’t even make this up anymore.”

It was argued that, given Trump’s current relationships with various journalists, him attending would be like a “fox into the hen house.”  However, Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that this was all the more reason that journalists should attend.

The View Co-Hosts Shared Different Predictions As To What Trump’s Attendance Would Be Like

As Griffin shared, “They should show up. Let’s remember that the White House Correspondents Association… It’s first and foremost about protecting the First Amendment and rallying around journalists who do incredible, important work, informing all of us.” She also felt that Trump would ultimately “give his remarks and then leave.”

Ana Navarro, however, disagreed with this. As she shared, “The White House Correspondents Association should not accept that. If he is going to show up, he should sit there while Kaitlan Collins gets her award.” It was then that Navarro revealed that she would be skipping the event, saying she didn’t want to “normalize” Trump’s attendance.

Sara Haines joked that her reason for skipping the event was host Oz Pearlman. On a more serious note, she shared, “It’s just not a funny or enjoyable anymore right now.”

For her part, Sunny Hostin shared, “We always get invited. We’ve all gone together. I will not go this year. I am not going to go this year because I won’t grace him with my presence because I think he’s been attacking the press.” Sharing similar sentiments, she noted, “I don’t care about this president’s attendance at that. But I do care about journalists making him appear to be normal. He is the most abnormal president that we have ever had.” Ultimately, Navarro concluded the discussion, sharing, “Listen, having Donald Trump speak at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where the free press is honored, is like having a cannibal host a vegan event.”

    UPDATED Turn Of Events

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner did take place on Saturday, April 26th, at the Washington Hilton. President Trump was in attendance along with his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, and VP JD Vance. Suddenly, gunshots erupted, and everyone had to either duck or be immediately rushed out. The gunman was identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from California, and an officer was shot, but thankfully, the officer’s condition is not critical.

What do you think of how the women of The View spoke of the dinner? Moreover, how do you feel about this horrific turn of events? Make sure you come back to TV Shows Ace for all the latest TV and celebrity news.
