King Charles III and Queen Camilla were set to visit the United States, marking the first British state visit to the country in nearly twenty years. However, one recent event, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, had many wondering if things would still take place as planned. Since then, a statement has been shared from Buckingham Palace.
Gunshots Could Be Heard During The White House Correspondents’ Dinner On April 25
King Charles, the monarch of the United Kingdom, was set to visit the United States on Monday. The event was scheduled to take place over four days.
However, there had been questions over whether the planned event would still happen amid the recent shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25. At the time, President Donald Trump attended the event for the first time during his presidency, alongside his wife, First Lady Melania, and Vice President JD Vance.
Reports had come out that gunshots could be heard at the D.C. event, with the gunman later identified as a 31-year-old, Cole Tomas Allen. An officer had been shot during the incident. However, reports claimed that they were not in critical condition.
The Trip Serves As The First British State Visit To The U.S. Since Queen Elizabeth II’s 2007 Visit
Since then, there had been concern if King Charles would continue with the state event as planned. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson shared, “Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day. And acting on advice of Government, we can confirm the State Visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned.”
On social media, Cameron Walker, the Royal Correspondent at GB News, also shared, “The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case.” It was further shared that they “are looking forward to the Visit getting underway tomorrow.”

According to The U.S. Express, King Charles was “relieved” that his hosts were unharmed by the shooting. As a Buckingham Palace spokesperson shared, the King was “being kept fully informed of developments.” He was also “greatly relieved to hear that the president, First Lady, and all guests have been unharmed.”
