Brenda Song hit up The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tonight to spill details about Running Point’s second season. The NBC series star sat down with Jimmy to talk shop about what fans can expect when the show returns.

The Tonight Show’s official Twitter account dropped the news earlier today. The post read: ‘Brenda Song joins us to talk Season 2 of Running Point tonight!’ The announcement racked up over 9,000 likes and 355 retweets. Not bad for a Tuesday night booking.

Song’s been making the rounds lately pushing the new season. Smart move. Running Point needs all the buzz it can get in today’s crowded TV landscape. NBC’s clearly putting some muscle behind this one.

For those keeping track, this marks Song’s return to network television in a big way. She’s been grinding in Hollywood since her Disney Channel days. Remember The Suite Life of Zack and Cody? That was Song cutting her teeth as London Tipton. Different world back then.

Running Point launched last year with decent numbers but nothing spectacular. The show follows a group of ambitious young professionals navigating careers and relationships in modern-day Chicago. Think of it as a workplace dramedy with heart. Song plays Maya Chen, a marketing executive who doesn’t take crap from anyone.

The timing of tonight’s appearance isn’t accidental. NBC’s been struggling to find its next big hit in the scripted space. Reality shows are eating everyone’s lunch right now. A solid sophomore season for Running Point could help the network’s credibility with younger viewers.

Song’s been strategic about her career moves lately. After years of guest spots and smaller roles, Running Point represents her first major starring vehicle since her Disney days. She’s not just phoning it in either. The actress has been vocal about wanting to tell stories that matter.

What makes this interesting is the promotional strategy. NBC typically saves Tonight Show slots for their biggest shows. The fact that they’re giving Song prime real estate suggests they’re serious about Running Point’s future. Either that or they’re desperate for content that doesn’t involve singing competitions.

The show’s first season dealt with workplace harassment, mental health, and economic inequality. Heavy stuff wrapped in accessible storytelling. Critics were mostly positive. Audiences were slower to catch on. That’s the eternal network TV problem right there.

Song brings something different to the table though. She’s got that rare combination of comedy chops and dramatic range. Plus she’s not afraid to get messy on screen. Maya Chen is flawed in ways that feel real. No perfect protagonist nonsense here.

Tonight’s appearance comes at a crucial time for the series. Season two needs to deliver bigger numbers if it wants to see a third. The entertainment landscape doesn’t forgive mediocre ratings anymore. You’re either a hit or you’re gone.

The promotional push suggests NBC believes in what they’ve got. Song’s been hitting podcasts and morning shows all week. The network’s throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks.

Fans seem excited based on the social media response. The Tonight Show announcement generated plenty of positive buzz. Comments ranged from excitement about the new season to praise for Song’s performance in season one.

Running Point premieres its second season next month on NBC. Song’s Tonight Show appearance should give the show a nice visibility boost heading into the new episodes. Whether that translates to viewership remains to be seen.

One thing’s certain though. Song’s not backing down from the challenge. She’s been working too hard to get here.
