The Today Show airs live from New York City’s Rockefeller Center. But the hosts and crew often travel to various locations for pre-recorded specials. Dylan Dreyer and Al Roker traveled to the Midwest earlier this week for a special event. They were stuck at the airport for hours. But instead of getting angry or upset, they laughed it off. Keep reading to find out more about how they passed the time.

Today Crew Stuck At Airport For Hours

The Today hosts and crew are well-versed in how to react during unexpected circumstances. They threw an impromptu sleepover earlier this year when a blizzard made travel in New York City impossible. Dylan Dreyer and Al Roker traveled to the Midwest earlier this week to cover a huge event in Missouri.

However, their flight plans didn’t go according to schedule. The hosts were missing from Wednesday’s episode of the Today Show amid their special assignment. Dylan Dreyer took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal that they hadn’t even left New York yet for their final destination.

Airports across the country are facing long flight delays after a shortage of TSA agents. President Trump briefly put ICE agents in some airports to help speed up security screenings. The situation is recovering, but there are still issues with delays.

Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and the rest of the Today crew were stuck in the airport for hours waiting for their flight to leave. Dylan Dreyer posted on social media that their methods of passing the time became a little unhinged after hours of boredom.

She posted a snapshot from the airport gate, showing Al Roker photos of her kids while a crew member danced behind them. “We’re so bored, it’s gotten to the point I’m sharing videos of the kids with @alroker … and @yoyosafe is…dancing?” she wrote.

The flight eventually took off and they made it to Missouri in time to film the special event.

What They Were Doing In Missouri

Huge celebrations are planned for this summer to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. But Missouri has its own celebration planned for a much smaller milestone. The Today crew traveled to Springfield, Missouri, to capture footage of the 100th anniversary of the creation of Route 66. The famous road was created in 1926. Springfield is dubbed the “birthplace” of Route 66.

Roseanne actor and Missouri State University alum John Goodman and singer Chris Janson appeared at the event. The segment featuring Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and Laura Jarrett airs on Thursday, April 30, during the Today Show‘s third hour.
