Tension inside one of Britain’s most famous families has taken another turn, with Victoria Beckham publicly addressing claims made by her eldest son, Brooklyn.
Speaking candidly, the fashion designer pushed back against accusations that have fueled headlines for months, offering her own perspective on parenting, fame, and a family bond that now appears more strained than ever.
Victoria Beckham finally addressed the controversy surrounding Brooklyn’s explosive remarks during an appearance on Emma Grede’s “Aspire” podcast. The discussion came months after Brooklyn alleged that his family prioritized image and public perception over genuine connection.
While she did not directly name her son’s statement, the conversation clearly touched on the ongoing tension. Responding to the idea of “Brand Beckham,” she explained how the public narrative has often differed from reality.
Per the Daily Mail, Victoria Beckham told Emma Grede, “When David and I first met it was never our intention to start a brand.”
She went on to reflect on how both she and David were already embedded in commercial partnerships before their relationship became global news. “People talk about “Brand Beckham” – that has happened so organically. When I first met David, I mean he was a Brylcreem boy.”
She continued, “So David was Adidas and Brylcreem and Pepsi and I was in the Spice Girls and that’s where I learnt so much about how to build a brand and marketing.”
Looking back at those early years, she added, “While he was doing Brylcreem and Adidas, the Spice Girls were doing Walker’s crips, Pepsi, Chupa Chups lollies, deodorant.”
In a more personal moment, she shared, “Do you know? True story, my mother still has a Spice Girls’ pizza in her oven. That pizza’s been in the freezer for thirty odd years. So when, people talk about “Brand Beckham”, that was never something that we even discussed.”
Victoria Beckham Rejects Brand Narrative
Victoria made it clear that the so-called empire was never a coordinated effort between her and her husband. Instead, she described two individuals pursuing separate passions while the outside world pieced together a narrative of a unified brand.
She said, “We don’t have any deals together. David does what David does, I do what I do.”
She added, “That’s the way it’s always been. We have very different interests. I think it was the outside world that really talked about Brand Beckham, that’s never really how we saw it. We’re just doing what we do.”
Her comments appeared to counter Brooklyn’s suggestion that everything within the family revolved around image and promotion.
Instead, she framed their success as something that grew naturally over time, rather than something carefully orchestrated behind closed doors.
Family Pressure And A Different Upbringing
Victoria Beckham also acknowledged that growing up in the spotlight likely affected her children in ways she and David never experienced themselves.
Brooklyn previously spoke about dealing with anxiety, which added another layer to the conversation.
Reflecting on this, she said, “Our children have had a very different upbringing to myself and David and I think the world is also a very different place now then to what it was when they were younger. We’ve always tried to protect the children as much as we can, we’ve always been very close.”

She said, “Ultimately, we want the kids to be hard-working and kind. I’ve always wanted to be the best mum that I could be and look after the kids. I also feel it’s been part of my job to really help them fulfill their full potential. It’s never about being pushy, it’s about being there to support.”
She also opened up about how parenting evolves as children grow older, adding, “I think it’s very different parenting adult children to parenting smaller children. I’m just trying to do the best that I can, you know. It’s my job to make sure my kids are the best versions of themselves.”
Rift Deepens As Family Moves Forward Separately
The distance between Brooklyn and his parents appears to remain significant. Reports indicate that Victoria and David have not not spoken with Brooklyn since last year, when the latter and his wife Nicola Peltz skipped David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebration.
The situation escalated further when Brooklyn and Nicola’s legal team requested that all communication with the Beckhams be handled through lawyers, signaling a serious breakdown in direct contact.
Despite the ongoing tension, Victoria Beckham spoke positively about her younger children and their individual pursuits.
Discussing Cruz’s growing music career, she said, “When I look at Cruz, my little son, he’s on tour at the moment, I said: ‘the most important thing is to learn your craft’.”
She continued, “Cruz has spent years learning play five or six different instruments, writing his own songs, putting a band together and touring small venues and doing it in a very humble way. He’s incredibly talented and he’s building his brand. That’s just what we do.”
