Akon is in London, and the city clearly delivered.

The R&B and hip-hop veteran posted from the UK capital this week as part of his Nights Like This Tour, sending a message that was equal parts victory lap and fan appreciation. “LONDON 🇬🇧 KNOW THAT YOU CAN CALL ON ME, BABY!!!!” he wrote on Instagram. “It’s been out of control out here! Can’t wait to come back soon.” The post closed with two hashtags, #NightsLikeThisTour and #BeautifulDayAlbum, tying the live run directly to his latest record.

It reads like someone who genuinely had a great night. With Akon, that London energy makes sense. He’s always connected with European audiences in a real way, and the UK has been one of his steadier markets going back to his breakthrough years.

The Nights Like This Tour is the live push behind the Beautiful Day album. Pairing a new record with a full international touring run is a real commitment, and the support structure is serious. Kon Live Distribution, Akon’s own imprint, is working alongside Interscope Records on the campaign. That’s major-label reach on top of an artist-owned label foundation. A touring run like this also gives Akon a chance to reintroduce himself to listeners who’ve been away from his music. Strong shows build the kind of buzz that streaming numbers alone can’t create.

Akon first broke through internationally in 2004 with “Locked Up,” a track that put him on the radar fast. He followed it with hits including “Smack That” and “Don’t Matter.” Those songs turned him into one of the most consistent voices on pop and R&B charts through the late 2000s. His melodic style over hip-hop production gave him crossover appeal that most artists in that lane couldn’t match.

Since then, Akon has stayed active on several different fronts. He’s built a name as an entrepreneur, with energy and infrastructure projects across Africa drawing real attention. But the music keeps pulling him back. The Beautiful Day album looks like the most focused return to recording he’s made in some time.

The line “Can’t wait to come back soon” deserves a close look. That’s not a throwaway sendoff. London consistently shows up for Akon, and a return leg of the tour would make real sense. That kind of direct promise to a city usually turns into a booking.

The response to the post has been enthusiastic. The London date sounds like it had the kind of energy that makes artists want to book a second night. With the tour still running, there’s clearly an appetite for more UK dates, and Akon’s tease landed at exactly the right moment.

There’s something genuinely exciting about watching an artist with Akon’s catalog bring a full live campaign back to cities that helped build his career. London was clearly one of those nights. The Nights Like This Tour is building real momentum. At this pace, 2026 could end up being one of the more interesting chapters in a career that already has plenty of them.
