Over the years, fans have enjoyed all sorts of memorable moments on The Price Is Right. Recently, quite a few fans have also noticed a familiar face could be seen on the show, sitting among the show’s studio audience. Following this, they have been reacting to the moment on social media.
While Some Spotted A Familiar Face On The Price Is Right, Many Know Them Best For Their Voice
The Price Is Right has been running since 1972, itself a reboot of the 1956 show of the same name. Over the years, fans have seen a number of contestants selected from the studio audience and get to compete on stage.
However, during a recent episode, the studio audience was notable for another reason. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that one audience member was someone familiar.
This was Wheel of Fortune announcer Jim Thornton, who appeared on The Price Is Right‘s May 14 episode. He could be seen wearing glasses and a Hawaiian shirt paired with jeans.
Thorton appeared to be sitting next to a younger man. While unconfirmed, there had been speculation that this was his son, Sam.
Jim Thornton Didn’t Get To Play, But Drew Carey Gave Him An Indirect Shout-Out
The Wheel of Fortune announcer could first be seen in the audience when the second item was up for bid. He could be seen clapping after the contestant won and was walking toward the stage.
Thorton didn’t really get his own chance to play. However, host Drew Carey gave him a shout-out during the first Showcase Showdown. While the final contestant spun the wheel, Carey looked over to Thornton and shared, “Ryan Seacrest is going to be here next year, reading the numbers like a pro,” a reference to his own Wheel of Fortune counterpart.

At this time, it is unknown if Thornton wanted to play or just watch. As noted by TV Insider, he is friends with The Price Is Right announcer George Gray, with the two presenting together at the SOVAS Voice Arts awards back in January.
Thornton could be seen throughout the episode in crowd shots. His appearance did not go unnoticed on social media, with one fan sharing on Facebook, “Noticed something that the current Wheel of Fortune announcer, Jim Thornton, was in the audience.” Taking to the comments, other fans shared their reactions.
- “Jim Thornton, did you spin the Big Wheel?”
- “I think that would explain why Drew was making references to ‘Wheel of Fortune’ during the first Showcase Showdown!”
- “Great announcer.”
