It’s been a stellar four-week post-release period for Michael, Antoine Fuqua’s musical biopic on the King of Pop, played by Jackson’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson, as box office reports confirm the film has soared up to a worldwide gross of $700 million after breaking records for the best opening weekend for a musical biopic in the UK. Such an achievement has seen the Michael Jackson cinematic re-telling kick Bryan Singer’s biopic Bohemian Rhapsody off the top spot, centred around the life and career of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.
Michael was initially budgeted at $155 million, but then expanded to $200 million due to last-minute yet extensive reshoots of the third act, a $45 million increase. However, this initial obstacle is looking to be forgotten as the film has now topped its new budget by $500 million, combined from a domestic gross of $282 million and an international one of $421 million, placing it as 2026’s second-highest-grossing release behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($964 million) and in front of Project Hail Mary ($667 million).
The film also stars Nia Long, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Laura Harrier, Jessica Sula, Mike Myers, Miles Teller, Juliano Krue Vardi andColman Domingo.
Additionally, The Devil Wears Prada 2 collected another $21 million between 8th May and 10th May, placing it at a worldwide gross of $546 million from a domestic gross of $175 million and an international one of $370 million. It is the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2026, beating Pixar’s Hoppers by $175 million. The film is directed by David Frankel and stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci, all reprising their roles from the first 2006 film.
As for impressive new releases, horror newcomer Curry Barker is seeing immediate success with his feature directorial debut, Obsession, as the unnerving horror film has grossed $21 million worldwide since its 15th May release, taking from international earnings of $4,959,00 and domestic earnings of $16,100,00. This means Barker’s film has earned $20.25 million more from its $750,000 budget. Obsession stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.
