Barcelona have confirmed coach Hansi Flick has extended his contract with the club until 2028, with an option for an additional year.
News of the agreement first emerged last week, and the club made it official on Monday.
Flick took over in 2024, and has enjoyed a superb spell in Catalonia, with Barca lifting the LaLiga title for the second successive season last week following a Clasico victory over Real Madrid. The German also guided Barca to Copa del Rey glory last season.
However, the one trophy that has escaped him since joining Barca is the Champions League, with the Blaugrana following up last season’s semi-final exit with elimination at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals this term.
But he will have at least two more seasons to end Barca’s wait for a trophy they have not won since 2015. Flick has previously won the Champions League, doing so in his time with Bayern Munich in 2020.
Flick delighted with Barcelona deal
Speaking last week after it was revealed he had reached agreement with Barca on an extension, Flick said: “I’m really happy about this. They have given me and my team the confidence to work one or two years more.
“A lot of coaches would be happy if they get a contract of three, four or five years, but in Barca’s case it’s good to limit it. I really appreciate it a lot.”
“We go to 2028 and then we’ll see if everything is right, and, if so, we can decide on one more year. The club has the right, and I have the right – I think it’s a good deal.”
Barca beat Real Betis 3-1 in their final home game of the campaign on Sunday. They will finish the season on Saturday with an away game at Valencia.
