Aespa dropped a teaser for a new project called LEMONADE on Tuesday, and it’s already clear this one isn’t for the full group.
The SM Entertainment quartet’s official Instagram account posted “LEMONADE loading…” with hashtags that specifically tagged members Giselle and Winter. Karina and NingNing didn’t appear in those tags. aespa is a tightly managed group, and that selective tagging reads as intentional. LEMONADE appears to be a sub-unit release built around those two.
The announcement came with no release date and no format information. The teaser was deliberately minimal, planting a title and a “loading…” prompt without filling in the rest.
The post crossed 28,000 likes on Instagram before the day was out. That’s a solid early number for a teaser with almost no actual detail attached. It signals real anticipation before the rollout has even properly started.
aespa debuted in November 2020 under SM Entertainment and broke through fast. Songs like “Black Mamba” and “Next Level” helped establish them as one of the defining K-pop acts of their generation. They’ve built a real global following since then. Fans go by MY, and the group’s reach has grown well past South Korea over the last several years.
Giselle and Winter each bring something distinct to a project like this. Giselle was born in Japan and has built her reputation on sharp rap delivery and fluency across multiple languages. Fans consistently single her out for the group’s range. Winter is widely regarded as one of the stronger vocalists of her generation in K-pop. Her high notes have been a consistent highlight of aespa’s live performances since debut.
The two have shared plenty of moments within the full group lineup, but a sub-unit project is a different arrangement. It means the material gets built around their specific pairing from the start. That creates room for both of them to go further than the four-member format typically allows.
Sub-units carry real weight in K-pop. SM Entertainment has launched plenty of them over the years. A two-member pairing getting its own standalone title and rollout usually signals genuine creative investment on the label’s side. The format for LEMONADE hasn’t been confirmed. It could be a single, a short EP, or something larger. The announcement is already framing it as its own self-contained release.
More details are almost certainly on the way. SM tends to manage rollouts carefully, and this one is clearly in its earliest stage. A release date, artwork, and some sense of the project’s direction will likely follow soon.
For now, Giselle and Winter have the spotlight. LEMONADE is loading.
