Bill Maher used a recent episode of his podcast to blast prominent Democrats, including former Vice President Kamala Harris and the Clintons, for refusing to sit down with him for what he called a genuine interview.

The “Real Time” host made the remarks Monday on his “Club Random” podcast during a conversation with Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am. When asked which guests he still hoped to land, Mr. Maher said the answer was, ironically, mostly Democrats.

“Because they’re such p—-ies, they won’t come on the show,” Mr. Maher said, calling out the Clintons and Ms. Harris by name. “Kamala, I voted for you.”

He went further in indicting the party’s broader media posture. “Democrats are p—-ies about, like, going anywhere that they’re not already pre-adored,” Mr. Maher said. “Not all of them, but I mean, somebody [like] Kamala Harris — I always say to my woke friends, we voted for the same person. You’re just why she lost.”

Will.i.am asked why Democrats seemed so passive compared to Republicans. Mr. Maher attributed it to ideological drift, saying the party had come “to champion a lot of really silly, anti-common-sense ideas” — a problem he argued did not exist during the Bush and Obama years, calling former President Barack Obama “the ultimate pragmatist.”

He also pointed to structural forces within both parties.

“What you have to mainly understand about political parties is that they’re controlled by their fringes,” Mr. Maher said on the podcast, as reported by Fox News. “They have the megaphone, especially on the left. … It’s younger people. Younger people on both sides are much more radical, and they’re better at social media.”

Mr. Maher, who has identified as a liberal and said he voted for Ms. Harris in 2024, has made a recurring point of praising conservatives who agree to appear on his programs while criticizing Democrats for avoiding potentially unfriendly audiences. His only political guest on “Club Random” in 2026 has been Sen. John Fetterman, Pennsylvania Democrat.
