If you take time off from the Today Show, you might find yourself out of a job. Dylan Dreyer recently took a day off from the morning program. Now, it seems that her fill-in is looking to replace her permanently. Keep reading for all the details on the shocking situation.
Dylan Dreyer Cuts Today Segment Short Over Stomach Issues
Dylan Dreyer has been on the Today Show for over a decade. She joined NBC in 2012. She currently serves as one of the co-hosts of the show’s third hour alongside Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Carson Daly. Not only is she an anchor, she’s also a meteorologist and steps in to do the weather.
She had to cut the weather report short on the episode that aired on May 8 after suffering stomach issues live on the air. The incident started when Savannah Guthrie asked if Dylan Dreyer wanted her to save one of the breakfast sandwiches the other hosts were eating. Dylan Dreyer politely requested a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich, but quickly regretted it.
“My stomach is instantly growling. I have to wrap up this forecast real quick,” she said. Carson Daly encouraged her to wrap up the weather segment, “Roll past this weather,” he advised.
Despite her hunger pangs, Dylan Dreyer stayed through the rest of the show. However, she wasn’t on the Today Show on May 19. She took the day off for personal reasons. She filed for divorce from her husband earlier this month after separating in 2025. They share three children.
Dylan Dreyer’s absence from the NBC news program is the perfect opportunity for her fill-in to angle for a permanent spot.
Fill-In Looking To Replace Her Permanently?
Dylan Dreyer worked hard for her position at the Today Show. But talk show hosts are replaceable. Emilie Ikeda filled in for Dylan Dreyer during her recent absence. Emilie Ikeda has been with NBC for five years now.

According to her LinkedIn page, she grew up in Philadelphia and attended North Penn High School. She majored in journalism and political science at American University in Washington, D.C. Emilie Ikeda got her start at WHAG TV and Fox News in Atlanta before joining NBC in 2021.
She’s already made a name for herself on the Today Show. She covered the 2026 Olympics and Paralympics for NBC after Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie stayed in the U.S. after Savannah Guthrie’s mother went missing.
In her personal life, Emilie Ikeda married her longtime boyfriend in 2022 in a stunning wedding in the Smoky Mountains.
But perhaps Emilie Ikeda’s biggest claim to fame is being in Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour docuseries. The Today Show host can be seen dancing with a crowd of fans outside a concert venue on one of the tour stops.
Dylan Dreyer’s job is safe for now, but Emilie Ikeda clearly has a bright future at the Today Show. Keep an eye on her!
