Carrick’s appointment on a full-time basis was confirmed on Friday morning and enables the club to accelerate their recruitment plans for this summer.
Brighton have more immediate concerns as they look to claim a win that would ensure a place in European competition next season. Victory would confirm at least a Europa League spot although various permutations involving Bournemouth, Liverpool and Aston Villa could see them end up in the Champions League.
The Seagulls start the afternoon in seventh place with United third.
