Sophia Jensen of Edmonton, Alberta has had a strong start to the 2026 canoeing season on the International Canoe Federation circuit in 2026. In two World Cup stops (one in Szeged, Hungary, and the other in Brandenburg, Germany), Jensen has come away with three medals. The first was a silver medal in Szeged, Hungary on May 9 as she finished second in the women’s C1 500 metres. The next two medals came last weekend in Brandenburg, Germany as Jensen finished second in the women’s C1 200 metres on May 17, and finished third in the women’s C1 500 metres on May 16. The silver medal for Jensen in the women’s C1 200 metres is noteworthy because this event is part of the Olympic program.
In the women’s C1 200 metres, Jensen had a second place time of 48.45 seconds. Liudmyla Luzan of Ukraine won the gold medal with a time of 47.7 seconds. Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboys of Cuba won the bronze medal with a time of 48.7 seconds. Jensen reached the podium by 0.99 seconds. Viktoria Yarchevska of Spain finished in fourth place with a time of 49.44 seconds.
Jensen is currently ranked 17th in the women’s canoeing world rankings. Her silver medal in the women’s C1 200 metres will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
