West Ham signed off from the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Leeds, but it was not enough to preserve their top-flight status as Tottenham’s win over Everton condemned the Hammers to relegation.
The London Stadium was filled with tension throughout a dramatic final day, knowing West Ham needed both a victory and help elsewhere to survive.
While they eventually delivered in East London, events in North London ultimately went against them, ending the club’s 14-year stay in the Premier League.
Castellanos sparks life in East London
After a nervous and cagey first half ended goalless, the game exploded into life after the break. Leeds threatened first, with Brenden Aaronson forcing an early save from Kasper Hermansen before another dangerous Leeds attack caused panic inside the West Ham area.
Valentin Castellanos finally broke the deadlock in the 67th minute. After successive corners piled pressure on the visitors, Jarrod Bowen whipped a superb delivery into the six-yard box and Castellanos rose highest to power a header beyond Karl Darlow for a priceless opener.

The goal transformed the atmosphere inside the stadium, with belief briefly surging around the home crowd. West Ham pushed forward relentlessly and doubled their lead 12 minutes later through captain Bowen.
Mateus Fernandes threaded a perfectly weighted throughball behind the Leeds defence, allowing Bowen to burst clear before drilling a ruthless finish across goal into the far corner.
Even then, news filtering through from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium kept celebrations muted. Spurs still held a narrow lead over Everton, meaning West Ham remained in the relegation zone despite their own result.
There was still time for one final moment of quality deep into stoppage time. Former Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville combined with substitute Callum Wilson from a short corner routine, and Wilson smashed a superb strike through a crowded penalty area and into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.
The final whistle brought mixed emotions. West Ham had comfortably passed their side of the equation after producing one of their best attacking displays of the season, but it was not enough.
For Nuno Espirito Santo and West Ham, the result marked a devastating end to a turbulent campaign, with Championship football now awaiting next season.
