The show aired its series finale on May 21, 2026. However, when the cameras turned off during the final show this past Thursday, this was when the real festivities began.
The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City was the site of an afterparty filled with celebrity guests. Colbert seemed to be in good spirits, dancing it out with friends and colleagues with a drink in his hand.
The Afterparty Was A Star-Studded Event, Including One Of Colbert’s Dance Partners
One moment that really took off was Colbert dancing along to the 1992 House of Pain classic, “Jump Around.” This scene even popped up on social media, and it wasn’t the only musical moment to go viral.
In another video, Colbert could be seen dancing along to Outkast’s “Hey Ya.” His dance partner appeared to be none other than Bette Midler. In another video, he could also be seen dancing with his wife, Evie.
Bette wasn’t the only star at the event to help give Colbert a big send-off. Plenty of stars from stage and screen, as well as musicians and other television show hosts and journalists, were at the event. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a few other celebrities in attendance included Anderson Cooper, Dick Cavett, Katie Couric, Mark Hamill, Tiffany Haddish, Drew Barrymore, Ewan McGregor, Padma Lakshmi, Bernadette Peters, Keegan-Michael Key, Patton Oswalt, Steve Buscemi, and “Weird Al” Yankovic.
Now that his show has come to an end, fans have also been wondering just what is next for Colbert. As previously reported, co-writing a new film in the Lord of the Rings franchise, subtitled Shadow of the Past. He will work with his son, Peter McGee, and Philippa Boyens, who co-wrote the LOTR and Hobbit trilogies.
