The entertainment world is mourning the loss of veteran French actor Pierre Deny, who died at 69 following a battle with ALS.
The actor, best known recently for his role in Netflix’s “Emily in Paris,” passed away just months after “Grey’s Anatomy” star Eric Dane also succumbed to the devastating disease.
Deny’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and friends who remembered him not only as a gifted performer but also as a warm and deeply generous presence behind the scenes.
Pierre Deny became familiar to Netflix viewers through his appearances in Seasons 3 and 4 of “Emily in Paris.”
The French actor portrayed Louis de Léon, the CEO of fashion powerhouse JVMA and the father of Nicholas de Leon, played by Paul Forman.
His character became closely tied to the storyline involving Ashley Park’s Mindy Chen, who dated Nicholas during the series.
Deny’s death was confirmed Monday by his daughters, who revealed the actor died after complications connected to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS.
“It is with deep emotion that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny, which occurred this Monday following a sudden and severe case of ALS,” the family said in a statement per the Daily Mail.
ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, eventually leading to paralysis and loss of muscle control. According to the Mayo Clinic, there is currently no cure for the condition.
Deny Earned Praise Throughout His Long Television Career
Long before joining Netflix’s glamorous Paris-set drama, Pierre Deny had become a respected figure in French television.
He appeared in more than 500 episodes of the soap opera “Demain nous appartient” (“Tomorrow Belongs To Us”), earning a loyal fan base through the years.
Following news of his death, several co-stars and colleagues shared emotional tributes online. Bulgarian-French singer and actress Sylvie Vartan reflected on the moments they shared onstage.
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Pierre Deny,” she wrote on Instagram. “I shared many wonderful moments with him on stage in Isabelle Mergault’s play.”
She continued by describing the actor as “a generous actor and a sensitive and funny man” before offering condolences to his family and loved ones.
Deny’s “Demain nous appartient” co-star Luce Mouchel also posted a lengthy and emotional message remembering their years together on set.
“Pierre, 7 years of filming together, taking the train together, having lunch at the canteen together,” she wrote.

Luce Mouchel’s tribute gave fans a deeper picture of the friendship she shared with Deny during nearly a decade working side by side.
“Sometimes confiding, inviting each other from time to time and congratulating you for your hidden cooking talent, meeting our girls, clapping at the theater, calling each other ‘Doctor’ usually, and I forget,” she continued.
Mouchel admitted Deny’s death felt painfully sudden. “A short decade of shared life that should not have ended so quickly and so brutally,” she revealed.
She also praised Deny’s daughters as she reflected on one of their final meetings.
“I’m thinking of your daughters and their exceptional courage. Thinking of you, my last visit and your sparkling eyes, rest in peace, Dr. Dumaze,” Mouchel wrote.
French Producer Raphael Beloliel Pays Tribute To Deny
As tributes continued to pour in, French producer Raphael Benoliel, who said he was a friend of Pierre Deny’s, remembered the late actor as both a “great artist” and a “magnificent person.”
In a heartfelt tribute shared on X, Benoliel explained that the two shared a deep passion for soccer, which he said Deny loved “above all else.”
He recalled that they were still playing together “just a year ago like a couple of kids,” describing Deny as a “true enthusiast” who found joy in the game, friendship, and life itself.
Benoliel added that Deny always carried “the joy of being together” and a strong love for effort and competition.
He ended the emotional message by lamenting that “that goddamn Charcot’s disease took him away far too soon,” adding that the loss felt deeply unfair.
Pierre Deny’s Death Comes Months After Eric Dane’s ALS Battle
Deny’s passing arrives only months after “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Eric Dane died from the same disease at age 53 on February 19, 2026. Dane first publicly revealed his diagnosis in April 2025.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he told PEOPLE at the time, adding, “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
Two months later, the Hollywood star opened up about the emotional toll of the illness. “I wake up every day, and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening,” he said. “It’s not a dream,” Dane said during an interview on “Good Morning America.”
His wife, Rebecca Gayheart, later described the diagnosis as “heartbreaking” while discussing how their family was coping. “My girls are really suffering, and we’re just trying to get through it,” she told PEOPLE, adding, “We have some professional therapists who are helping us, and we’re just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace and love.”
